A very good day turned into an extraordinary Friday night for Jack White. To a surprised roar from a packed Masonic Temple Theatre, White culminated his Detroit homecoming show by proposing to his girlfriend, musician Olivia Jean.

Returning for the show’s ostensible encore 5 minutes later, White and Jean wed in an onstage ceremony officiated Third Man’s Ben Swank. Their respective bass players were the best man and maid of honor, while members of their families including White’s mother, Theresa Gillis, stood by.
Friday’s concert was the first of two Masonic shows for White as he launched his Supply Chain Issues Tour and marked the release of “Fear of the Dawn,” the first of two new albums coming from him this year.
It came hours after he donned a Detroit Tigers jersey to perform an instrumental version of the national anthem at Comerica Park ahead of the team’s season-opening game with the Chicago White Sox.
The proposal and wedding came near the end of the set, during a performance of Hotel Yorba. While singing, White proposed to Olivia Jean, whose band opened the show tonight. White does not allow cell phones at his shows, so no pictures from the wedding are on social media.
Once he finished the song, they went off stage and came back with family members. The wedding was then officiated by Third Man Record’s co-founder Ben Swank.
Following the wedding, White carried his new wife off stage and then came back out to close the show with several songs, including the finisher 7 Nation Army.
This is White’s third marriage. He was formally married to model and singer Karen Elson and his White Stripes bandmate Meg White.
